Explained

Privacy Policy

Last updated 17 October 2026

This policy explains what Explained (the desktop app for Mac and Windows, this website and our account service) collects, why, and what you can do about it. Explained is operated by [Legal name of the operator], [Registered address, Italy] (“we”), the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact us at [contact email].

What Explained is for

Explained is a small independent project, built for fun. It is meant for three things only: taking notes and summaries of your own meetings and their recordings, reviewing practice interviews, and simulating real interviews so you can practise. It is not designed, offered or supported for any other use, and any other use is at your own risk.

What we collect

Audio, screen and your conversations

During a session the app sends the audio of your call to our speech-to-text provider to transcribe it, and sends the transcript, and a screenshot when you ask about your screen, to an AI model provider to write answers. This happens in real time; we do not keep recordings, transcripts or screenshots on our servers.

Transcripts, meeting summaries and the documents you add (such as a résumé) are stored only on your computer. You can delete them at any time from the app’s data folder.

You are responsible for telling the other people on a call that you use Explained, and for getting their consent where the law requires it.

No responsibility for how it is used

Explained is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no responsibility or liability for any damage or loss, direct or indirect, caused by or connected with the app, the website or the service: including what you or others do with its answers, transcripts or recordings, the outcome of any meeting, interview or exam, any breach of rules or laws by a user, and any loss of data. You use Explained entirely at your own risk and are responsible for how you use it. Nothing in this policy removes rights that the law does not allow to be removed.

Who processes data for us

Some of these providers process data outside the EU, under standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

Why, and on what basis

How long we keep it

Account and usage records are kept while your account exists and deleted within 30 days of your request to close it, except what the law requires us to keep for accounting.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it, by writing to [contact email]. You can also complain to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it).

Changes

We will post any change to this policy here and update the date above.
